All You Need To Know About Us.

Why Two Imprints?
Bandit Books exists to publish stories with bite. Work written by outsiders, by people shaped by the justice system, and by anyone who has been told to wait their turn. Our books don’t whisper. They bark, grin, and kick the door in.

Tasman Ridge is our home for books with a more literary edge. From debut authors to seasoned writers, it champions fiction and non-fiction that carry depth, craft, and clarity.

We’re shaped by the kind of yarns that grow legs and wander off on their own. Our logos reflect that spirit: sharp, loyal, a little wild, and absolutely unafraid.

We don’t chase trends. We don’t preach. We publish work that is honest, strange, funny, and alive. Books that jolt readers awake and leave a mark.

If it has heart, grit, and a spark of mythic mischief, it belongs at Bandit Books or Tasman Ridge.

How Did You Start?
Bandit Books began as a self-publishing venture. After knocking on almost every publisher’s and agent’s door in Australia, it became clear the industry is a closed shop. Traditional deals offer authors five to seven percent, which means you might earn a dollar a book if you’re lucky. The gatekeepers hold the sword of Damocles over writers, and most publishers no longer take risks. They play it safe for their shareholders.

We don’t have shareholders. We don’t have committees. We take chances. If a book doesn’t pay off, we’ll still sleep well knowing we backed something worthwhile.

Who Owns Bandit Books and Tasman Ridge?
Both imprints are part of a small family business that most of our relatives still think is a hobby. We’re still finding our feet, but every day brings new experiences and new wonderful people across our desks. We feel blessed to do work we’re passionate about and to build something that matters.

Who Was Bandit?
Bandit was our beloved Border Collie X Heeler, that we had for thirteen wonderful years. Rescued from euthanasia by mere hours at 8 weeks, old he showed us what unconditional love was and brought us more joy and happiness than we could ever imagine. Dog lovers will understand.

What Genre’s do you publish?
Our focus is unique and iconic Australian stories, or with engaging characters that are Australian. We love stories that make us feel one way or another. To be moved. To leave tears on the page or laughing out loud. We enjoy action-adventure, heartfelt and uplifting stories, humourous, historical, thrillers and memoirs. Even a well written romance or cowboy/bushranger story.
